Portrait Project

Artists Create Original Art

How did you use your own unique ideas in your work?
Did you use a source for inspiration, then combine it with your own ideas to make it original?

For this project, I chose a picture of my friend that I had taken. This picture was unique because it showed her at lunch on her phone while eating. It was also unique because when I took the picture she didn't know I was taking her picture.

At first I had chosen a picture that was intentionally taken and very straight forward. There was no depth to the picture. As i started to draw it, I realized it wasn't creative or unique.  So I decided to search for a picture that was not posed for, but was still a picture that could be drawn.

Artists Take Risks

Did you try something that you weren’t sure about as part of this project?
Did you pick a material or technique that was new or different over something that was familiar?

For most of my art projects so far I had used colored pencil or graphite. I started out using colored pencil and graphite but when I finished the drawing of my friend, I realized it was boring. It needed something more. So I decided to choose a material that i hadn't used yet for a background. For the background, I used acrylic paint. When I finished the basic background, I decided I needed a border between my drawing and the painted background. I wasn't sure about this, but i went ahead anyway. i didn't turn out quite like i had expected, so i decide to sponge on another border on top and it turned out great!
